How is my No-Risk Consignment Payout calculated?

With no-risk consignment, you’ll receive a percentage of the Sale Proceeds when your item sells.

Your total payout is calculated as follows:

You keep 20% of the first $20 of Sale Proceeds
You keep 50% of Sale Proceeds from $20-$50
You keep 75% of Sale Proceeds from $50-$250
And you keep 90% of Sale Proceeds over $250

Please note that “Sale Proceeds” refers to the amount that the ReSella receives from the buyer, minus any payment processing fees, marketplace fees (from eBay or similar sites), the cost of packaging & insurance, etc. In other words, it’s the same profit that you would make if you sold the item on the same marketplace with the same associated costs.

For local, cash sales on marketplaces like Facebook, OfferUp and Criagslist, there aren’t payment processing fees or marketplace fee, so a $200 local, cash sale on Facebook would mean the ReSella received $200 in Sale Proceeds.

For that same $200 sale on sites like eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari, there will be additional direct selling costs that come out of the $200 sale amount. The Sale Proceeds would be below $200 because of those costs.

If you don’t want items listed on marketplaces with additional direct selling costs, we can instruct your ReSella to list items exclusively on local meetup sites like Facebook and Craigslist. Alternatively, you can also opt to have items listed for more when they are listed on sites with built-in selling fees. For example, your Gucci sunglasses could be listed for $200 locally, on Facebook, and $235 on eBay, to make up for the additional selling costs required by that specific marketplace.

As always, our expert in-house resale team will walk you through your options, help you understand the trade offs, and make recommendations, but ultimately, you’re in control. You make the final call about where your item is listed and for how much.

How much does Fixed Rate Consignment cost?

With Fixed Rate consignment, your ReSella will record their time and direct reimbursable costs (e.g. having a UPS Store safely pack your $500 camera lens), and you'll pay for the Time & Materials incurred to sell your stuff, whether your items sell or not.

ReSellas set their hourly rates, so you'll know up front how much they charge. And we (Sella) provide a list of billable services and reimbursable costs that you and your ReSella will agree on before you begin working together. The result is a clear-cut agreement to pay for the effort and out-of-pocket costs to have someone (try to) sell your stuff.

No-risk consignment and fixed-rate consignment are very different service models, with different risk-reward profiles for customers and ReSellas! The choice is ultimately a matter of preference, and our A+ support team can help you think things through to decide what feels best to you.

Who sets the Asking Price for my items?

We’ll recommend prices and work with you to set prices, but the final decision is always yours. Specifically, our pricing experts will suggest an Asking Price and a Walk-Away Price for each item, based on seasonality, condition, brand, accessories, active marketplace listings and recent sales.

Once you've zeroed in on a range that feels right, your ReSella has everything they need to make a sale at the best price possible. They’ll start out listing items at the Asking Price, then slowly lower the price if they’re not getting any interest. Resellas will never sell an item below your Walk-Away Price.

Since ReSellas (and Sella) make money based on your final sale price, you can trust that we’re all aligned to negotiate hard for every dollar!

Who negotiates with buyers?

Your ReSella will handle all buyer negotiations and in-person meetups.

Since they work on commission, you can trust your ReSella to work hard for every dollar. And reset assured, they’ll never sell an item below your Walk-Away Price.

How and when will I get paid?

When a sale is complete, your ReSella will send your payout within 2 days via a payment app you’ve both agreed to up front, e.g. PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, etc.

Can I extend the Consignment Window past 60 days?

No. If your item doesn’t sell within 60 days, you’ll need to arrange to have it returned, or you can Pass it On.

The #1 way to increase the likelihood of a sale within 60 days is to lower your Walk-Away price. Don’t worry—our resale experts are here to help you come up with a pricing strategy that maximizes your profit!

Do large or fragile items cost more?

In short, it depends.
‍
If you have a high-value item that is large and/or fragile, you’re likely to find a ReSella who is excited to sell it without any additional upfront payment or commission bonus.
‍
However, large and fragile items require extra effort and storage space. If your item is going to sell at a lower price point—if it’s a $60 bicycle, for example, or a $150 drum set—you might choose to offer a $10 upfront payment or a 25% commission bonus to make up for the extra effort.

As always, our in-house support team will make recommendations and help you decide on consignment terms that feel right to you and are likely to work for ReSellas, too.

Does the Mail-In service cost more?

Yes and no.
‍
You’re responsible for the cost of shipping items to your ReSella: that’s packaging, postage and insurance. Once items are received, there’s no additional charge.
‍
If an item doesn’t sell after 60 days, you can Pass it On, or have it returned. If you elect to have it returned, you’ll be responsible for the return shipping cost.

Since shipping costs can eat into your profit, we only recommend our Mail-In service for small items that are small, safe to ship, and easily worth $100.

Can my ReSella erase data and reset my device?

Generally speaking, customers must provide all items to ReSellas in “ready to sell” condition. That means they’re clean, erased, factory reset (when applicable), and include all cables, chargers and accessories.

Having said that, if you don’t want to reset your device or don’t know how, you can offer ReSellas an upfront payment to do that work for you. For example, you might offer $15 for someone to wipe and reset a Macbook Pro.

As always, our in-house support team will guide you through the process and make recommendations if you want to pay a ReSella to help reset your device.

Will my ReSella deep-clean my item?

No. All items need to be delivered to your ReSella in “ready to sell” condition.

Believe it or not, we’ve had customers drop off items in pretty rough shape and then expect a total makeover! We’ve seen espresso machines still full of coffee grounds, Dyson pet vacuums full of dog hair, wrinkled designer clothes, and items covered in stickers… to name a few.

If you make an honest mistake, your ReSella can either (i) reject the item, (ii) sell it “as is” in its current cosmetic condition, or (iii) offer to perform the cleaning for a fee.

Can I hire my ReSella for hourly decluttering help?

Oftentimes, yes!
Many of our ReSellas offer additional help with all kinds of decluttering projects:

Assessing items on-site and sorting them into sell, donate or dispose of boxes
Taking items to a donation center
Dump runs and disposing of unwanted items
Pre-sale tune ups and refurbishment
Bringing items to your curb and posting “free stuff” alerts
And even helping you sell an item they can’t accept, like a couch or bedroom set
