When do I pay?

All expert selling fees and third-party costs are deducted from sale proceeds when your items sell.

In the event that you cancel our service before your items sell or you have a negative balance, your credit card will be safely and securely charged in partnership with Stripe.

Why are large items more expensive?

Ten smartphones will fit in a shoebox, but try as they might, our Sella reps can't safely store ten microwaves in the same small space. To compensate our reps appropriately for storing items, we charge $0.05/day per cubic-foot of storage.

Who sets the price for my items?

You do! Our pricing team will recommend a selling plan based on extensive multi-marketplace research about current demand, item condition, and recent sales, but ultimately — you call the shots.

Once you approve your pricing strategy, we'll start your item at the Initial Asking Price and slowly lower the price and negotiate with qualified offers over 30 days. Rest assured, we don't accept low offers early on, and we'll never go below your Never Accept Less Than Price.

After 30 days, our team will do a complimentary listing refresh, recommend lowering your asking price by 20%, and then repost listings to reach new buyers.

If you change your mind at any time, you can always change your selling plan. Note that significant increases to pricing will likely prolong your selling cycle.

How long will it take my item to sell?

High-demand, competitively priced items usually sell within 5-30 days, but some items can take 45-90 days or even longer to find the right buyer.

If you're in a hurry, lowering an item’s price is the #1 thing you can do to increase the likelihood of making a sale.

What if my item doesn't sell?

Every item that can sell, should sell — it's just a matter of price and timing to find the right buyer. Keep in mind, it's tough to sell snowshoes in July, and off-brand headphones from the 90s probably aren't worth what you paid for them. We'll do our best to steer you in the right direction every step of the way so that every sale is profitable.

If you ever want to cancel our service before an item sells, you can do so at any time. After paying the expert selling fees (our reps are affordable, but they don't work for free!), you can have the item returned to you, or you can pay-it-forward and we'll take care of rehoming, donating or responsibly recycling it for free.

How much does curbside pickup cost?

A Sella rep can meet you at your door, load up a trunk's worth of items and take them away to be sold. Curbside pickup starts at $10 in our service areas (based on mileage), and we'll let you know the total cost before you schedule a pickup, so you can factor that into your decision.

Do you list on more sites than Craigslist and eBay?

Yes. We list items on eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Mercari, OfferUp and Poshmark to name a few.

The marketplace commission varies per site, ranging from 0% on Craigslist to 20% on Poshmark. For more information about marketplace fees, check out our Detailed Pricing.

Got any tips to ensure every sale is profitable?

We sure do, because we really, really don't like charging service fees for items that don't sell!

Start with the sure things, e.g. $50, $100, $200+ items.
Skip the stuff that won't easily sell for at least $40.
For close calls, search eBay to see what similar items sell for.
For uncommon items, expect to wait 60-90 days for a sale.
Price large items competitively, right out of the gate.
And finally, add personal details to listings when you review & approve them. E.g. Are you the first owner? Why are you selling? What do you love about this item?
